8th Grade Language Arts

Finish reading, lRobert Louise Stevenson Banks, aka Chimley,” on pages 47-51. In class, I told you to write a memory of a story from maybe a parent or a grandparent, but I am going to broaden the assignment. A memoir is a writing assignment that records a memory. That is not what I am looking for. I want your writing to be closer to the style of this story. This is an oral storytelling style. The difference is the voice. It is written like someone is sitting and telling you a story. Dialect is used and the grammar is not perfect. Your writing this weekend is to just tell a story. It can be a story about your parent, grandparents, you, friends…your imagination is the only thing that will limit you. This story needs to be in your voice, or if you are writing someone else’s story, his/her voice. This is a short story…about one page. I have a friend that uses the word “onliest” instead of only, so if I were writing something she told me I would use her word. We are not making fun of the person, we are capturing the person‘s character. You may do your rough draft in your composition notebook, but I want a clean version turned in on Tuesday. You may type it or neatly write it on notebook paper.
Test over chapter 7 on Tuesday.
Have a great weekend,
