Pre-Algebra March 3
There is still a good bit of confusion on the percent equation and knowing when to multiply or divide. If you are having trouble, you may need to rewatch the videos. If you KNOW you have it, i'm not requiring you to rewatch the videos. If I had to help you Thursday in class, you need to work on this concept this weekend. Some are stuck on multiplying when we should be dividing.
I did send a homework packet due Tuesday. Because of the struggle in class, I added the answers to the last page of the packet dealing with percent problems. It is NOT for you to simply copy. I want to see your work. BUT, it will let you know if you are working each problem correctly. Work ONE problem and check the answer before moving onto the next problem. If your answer is incorrect, STOP and figure out what you did!
With the way the equation is set up "A % of a whole is a part", there is a one out of three chance we need to multiply. In saying that, there are 2 out of 3 chances we will divide!!!!! It really isn't a guessing game. And yes, the problem can be worded "A part is a % of a whole." There are still the words "OF" and "IS" no matter how it is worded!!!
Work on this. Take initiative.
I am torn on what to do on Wednesday. I want to have a pizza day. But you neeeeeeeeed to get this percent equation right in your mind. Bring $5 on Tuesday. I'll see how class goes before I decide. I don't know how to say this nicely, so I'll just say it. If you don't bring $5, you won't get pizza. There's no need to forget. If it's not important enough for you to remember, then it tells me you don't want any. It's not fair to the other students who DO bring their money.
Put $5 in your book NOW!!!!! So you will have it on Tuesday!!!!!!
Have a great weekend!
