5th Grade Vocabulary Words - Chapter 5 Review 

  1.  Verb - the main word in the predicate of a sentence, tells what the subject does or is.

  2.  Action Verb  - tells what the subject does.

  3.  Linking Verb - tells what the subject is by linking the subject to a noun or adjective in the predicate part of the sentence. 

  4.  Predicate Noun - renames the subject.

  5. Predicate Adjective - describes the subject

  6. Prepositional Phrase - begins with a preposition and ends with the object of a preposition and includes all the words between them.

  7. Preposition - words that connect nouns, pronouns, or phrases to other words within a sentence.

  8. Direct object - receives the action taking place. Answers what ? or whom ?

  9. Object of a Preposition - follows a preposition to form a prepositional phrase.

  10. Sentence Pattern - the way words are put together to form a complete thought.
