5th Grade Vocabulary Words - Chapter 5 Review
Verb - the main word in the predicate of a sentence, tells what the subject does or is.
Action Verb - tells what the subject does.
Linking Verb - tells what the subject is by linking the subject to a noun or adjective in the predicate part of the sentence.
Predicate Noun - renames the subject.
Predicate Adjective - describes the subject
Prepositional Phrase - begins with a preposition and ends with the object of a preposition and includes all the words between them.
Preposition - words that connect nouns, pronouns, or phrases to other words within a sentence.
Direct object - receives the action taking place. Answers what ? or whom ?
Object of a Preposition - follows a preposition to form a prepositional phrase.
Sentence Pattern - the way words are put together to form a complete thought.
