Weekend Work:

Grammar: WB p. 78-80. Begin studying Ch. 2. Test next Thurs.

Writing: Wksheet (given in class) “Creating Images” Use Ch. 2 of the Cay for this assignment. You only have to do 2 examples and 2 drawings. If you choose to do a 3rd example and drawing, you will get extra credit points.

Reading: Read Ch. 3. Begin studying new vocabulary. I will give out a hard copy Tues.

1.      wiry (p.22) – lean and tight, thin yet strong

2.     ignited (p.23) – lit on fire, to catch fire or to start something burning

3.     alabaster (p.24) – smooth and pure, bright off-white color; a soft mineral easy to carve

4.     ebony (p.24) – deep pitch-black color

5.     glancing (p.27) – striking or hitting at an angle and bouncing off

6.     despair (p.27) – loss of hope; state of complete hopelessness

7.     remote (p.28) – distant and reserved; cold and unfriendly behavior

8.     regarded (p.28) – gazed steadily or closely

9.     lashed (p.28) – wrapped or tied with a rope or cord; to attack with heavy force

10.  stubborn (p.29) – unyielding, refusing to change your ideas, plans, or attitudes even if given a good reason to do so

11.   defiantly (p.29) – rebelliously; acting in a way that boldly refuses to obey authority, rules, or opposition

12.  skimmed (p.31) – gliding lightly over the surface

13.  rapped (p.31) – hit or knock quickly and sharply

15.  scorch (p.37) – to burn  or discolor the surface of something with heat; to dry and turn it brown
