Biology Friday 9/25 Build a cell model
Complete the handouts on plant and animal cells which were given to you during class on Wednesday.
Create a 3D model of a plant cell or an animal cell (one or the other; NOT both)
Instructions for building your 3D cell model. The entire project is worth 100pts
Build a Cell Activity Instructions Due: Tuesday 9/25
Build a three dimensional cell model with a key of each organelle and its function. Materials may be edible or non-edible. Be creative and use lots of different material in the model and you should choose items to accurately represent each organelle in size, shape and location. Follow these guidelines for the project:
Steps to Create a Physical Cell Model:
Complete the animal and plant cell handouts from class. (animal and plant cell organelle label page and color page)
Choose the type of cell (plant or animal) which you would like to build.
Form the cell membrane and cytoplasm using a base layer with a building material of your choice (clay, cardboard, styrofoam, frosting, paper plate). For plant cells, add a rigid outer layer to simulate the cell wall.
Create organelles individually. Use the chart below for a list of the organelles which you should make and include in your cell model.
Assemble the organelles inside the cytoplasm according to their locations.
Label each organelle using toothpicks with paper flags. The paper flag should identify the organelle.
Make a legend which includes the organelle name & it’s function (can be done as a chart).
